Our client, a global leader in innovation, is seeking a visionary Taxonomist to revolutionize their product data, driving smarter systems and enhancing the user experience. This is your chance to make a profound impact, transforming complex information into intuitive, machine-readable structures that directly fuel advanced machine learning initiatives and elevate the quality of product discovery for a vast audience.

As a Taxonomist, you will play a pivotal role in the client’s product data management initiatives, enriching and standardizing product metadata within their unified taxonomy. Your expertise will be crucial in facilitating machine learning and advancing strategic data initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cross-taxonomy mapping, vertical expansion, and front-end taxonomy design, working closely with engineering teams to enhance machine learning understanding through annotation and model output evaluation.

This is a 12-months, remote contract, offering up to £34.62 per hour – 40 hrs/week – (PAYE). This role is open for a limited time. Next steps will be shared with shortlisted candidates ASAP. Due to the high volume of applicants, we may be unable to reply to each applicant individually. 

**Key Responsibilities:**

* Conduct detailed data analysis using spreadsheet software or scripting languages to identify exact and approximate matches across diverse vocabularies.
* Perform comprehensive internal and external research to enrich and refine node metadata.
* Provide regular status reports to partners and stakeholders, highlighting progress, addressing questions, resolving issues, and identifying potential opportunity areas.
* Ensure all implementations adhere strictly to established taxonomy governance guidelines.

**Must-Have Qualifications:**

* 2+ years of dedicated experience in developing taxonomies or ontologies to support a variety of systems for both front-end and back-end applications.
* Proven experience in building taxonomies or designing user experiences specifically for e-commerce platforms.
* Demonstrated ability to research and define taxonomy metadata based on existing industry standards.
* Experience working with a diverse range of topic and domain types.
* Strong capability in communicating and presenting complex taxonomy principles and standards effectively.
* Exceptional ownership and a proactive, self-starting attitude, coupled with the ability to build strong relationships with partners and articulate a clear point of view.
* Excellent proactive communication skills regarding projects and workstreams.
* A strong affinity for detailed-oriented taxonomy development work.

**Nice-to-Have Qualifications:**

* Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Management.
* Experience in analyzing large volumes of data using query languages.
* Experience in building taxonomies specifically for machine learning classification systems.
* Familiarity with prompt engineering and artificial intelligence tools.
