Do you have copy editing experience within an entertainment company? Would you like to join an established global company for a contract role?

Our client is seeking a versatile, creative copy editor to join the Creative Writing Strategy team for a 3-month contract, offering up to £45 per hour.

In this role, you’ll help the company’s members navigate a sea of content by summarizing movies and television shows with concise, creative, and engaging synopses. This role is perfect for an omnivorous generalist who loves to ideate on language, is passionate about pop culture, and thrives on collaborative editing cycles. It requires a copy editor who can tackle a high volume of writing assignments with enough creative energy to make each synopsis sing. The team writes copy in English, but professional proficiency in another language is a huge bonus.

If you’re excited to contribute to a team of content experts who thrive on candid feedback and drive global conversations about entertainment, this is a dream job. This position is a three-month contract, with an expected schedule of 40 hours per week. Candidates can be located anywhere in the UK, but you’ll be working with colleagues worldwide and may need some flexibility in your working hours.

What you’ll do:

  • Proofread (many) synopses about movies, TV shows, games, and live events. You’ll be looking at synopses from popular action movies to low-budget indie films to the latest addictive game — and understand what requires a more sensitive touch.
  • Work closely with assignment editors overseeing the workflow to ensure the copy meets the needs of the writing brief.
  • Embody editorial principles to create accurate, inclusive, and creative synopses that are nuanced enough to resonate with different audiences.
  • Proofread text and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
  • Fact-check and collaborate with writers to ensure the copy is aligned with the content.
  • Check copy for style, readability, and adherence to editorial policies.
  • Rewrite text to improve clarity and readability.

Things you’ll need:

  • Experience writing or editing about film and TV.
  • Professional copy editing experience.
  • Mastery of AP style and attention to detail.
  • Research skills to help you gather context about titles and quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • A selfless approach to contributing to a world-class editorial team.
  • Eagerness to embrace a culture of candid feedback.
  • A global mindset and willingness to see beyond your own culture.
  • Reliable, fast Internet service.

Applicants for this position will be asked to complete a copy-editing exercise.

The next steps will be shared with shortlisted candidates by the end of the day on Monday, 8th April 2024.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
